Why art needs protection in the UAE
The UAE combines intense sunlight with humid coastal air and heavily air-conditioned interiors. Light causes fading, while moving between humid and dry conditions makes paper ripple and canvas slacken. Good framing slows all of this down.
What conservation framing includes
- Acid-free mounts and backing — prevent the mount itself from discolouring the artwork.
- UV-filtering glazing — such as Tru Vue conservation glass, which reduces the light that causes fading.
- Spacing — keeps the artwork from touching the glass, reducing condensation risk.

Where to hang
Choose walls out of direct sun, away from AC vents, kitchens and bathrooms. Interior walls are usually more stable than exterior ones. For valuable pieces, consider anti-reflective glazing so you can hang in a bright room without glare.
Caring for framed art
Dust frames with a soft, dry cloth. Clean glass with a cloth lightly dampened with glass cleaner — never spray directly onto the frame. If you notice rippling, spots or fading, bring it to a framer early; restoration and reframing are easier before damage spreads.
