What is Tru Vue Museum Glass?

Tru Vue Museum Glass is an anti-reflective, UV-filtering picture-framing glass used by museums and galleries worldwide. Standard clear glass bounces back a noticeable share of the light that hits it, which is why you often see windows, lamps and your own reflection over a framed piece. Museum Glass reflects less than 1%, so the glazing all but disappears and colours look true from almost any angle.

Why UV protection matters in the UAE

Dubai homes and offices are bright. Daylight through big windows and strong interior lighting both carry ultraviolet light, and UV damage is cumulative and permanent: inks fade, paper yellows and textiles weaken. Museum Glass blocks up to 99% of UV light, which slows that damage dramatically. It does not make a piece immune to light, so we still advise against hanging originals in direct sun.

What it is right for

  • Original paintings on paper, watercolours, drawings and pastels
  • Signed prints, limited editions and giclée reproductions
  • Family photographs, documents and heirlooms you cannot replace
  • Signed jerseys and memorabilia in bright rooms
  • Dark artwork, where reflections on normal glass are most distracting

How it fits a conservation frame

Glazing is only one layer. A conservation frame also uses acid-free mount board, reversible hinging and a sealed, acid-free backing so nothing in the frame harms the art over time. We build Museum Glass frames this way as standard at our framing counter in Safestway Shopping Centre on Sheikh Zayed Road. See our museum & conservation framing service for the full build.

Museum Glass or acrylic?

Museum Glass is real glass: the clearest view and a crisp, scratch-resistant surface. For very large pieces, high-traffic spaces or artwork that will be shipped, Optium Museum Acrylic gives the same low-reflection look at about half the weight and without the risk of shattering. For décor pieces where full conservation is not needed, UltraVue UV70 is a lower-cost anti-reflective option.

Frequently asked questions

Is Tru Vue Museum Glass worth it?

For original art, signed pieces and anything you cannot replace, yes. It combines the clearest view with up to 99% UV protection, which slows fading and yellowing. For posters and easily replaced prints, a lower-cost glazing usually makes more sense.

Does Museum Glass stop fading completely?

No glazing stops fading completely. Museum Glass blocks up to 99% of UV light, the biggest cause, but visible light still has an effect over time. Avoid hanging originals in direct sunlight.

How do I clean Museum Glass?

Use a soft, clean microfibre cloth and a mild glass cleaner sprayed onto the cloth, never directly onto the glass, so liquid cannot seep under the frame. Wipe gently; the anti-reflective coating should not be scrubbed.

Can you reframe an existing piece with Museum Glass?

Yes. Bring the frame to our Safestway counter or send a photo on WhatsApp. We can usually keep the existing moulding and replace the glass, mount and backing.
